‘I have been over to visit Katameya Dunes a number of times over the last
couple of years to see progress in the course build, grow in and estate development.

I was blown away by the layout and design of all 27 holes the moment I saw it. It is,
in my opinion, in the top 3 golf courses in the region already and is
immediately the flagship golf property in Egypt that has significantly raised the bar.

The condition of greens, tees, playing surfaces and the transition areas and the
agronomic practices was impressive from day one. I look forward to seeing it again
on my next visit – it can certainly be a more than appropriate venue for a
European Tour event on the European Challenge Tour,
European Senior Tour and regular European Tour.

In early 2006 Faldo Design was selected to create a 27 hole ‘desert oasis’ styled golf course over spectacular duneland on the outskirts of Cairo.

Sir Nick Faldo’s thoughts:

“I’m delighted to be working on what is our first design project in Egypt – indeed our first in North Africa. It is a wonderful site and there is a really special atmosphere about the place –
 the sense of history is almost tangible. I’m confident that, once completed, this 27 hole facility will go on to be recognised as one of the very finest in the region.

 What I feel that I can especially bring to the project is a certain level of strategic insight that will help to define and colour the golfer’s experience. The courses I design are very much aimed at the thoughtful,
 imaginative golfer, and it is precisely these players that will get the most out of playing at Katameya Dunes.”
